The Washington Wizards team is a familiar name to NBA fans. It is possible that you don't know all there is to know about them. Kristi Toliver (or David Adkins), James Posey (or Larry Harris), and even Steve Nash may all be familiar names. We will briefly examine their backgrounds and respective roles in this article.

David Adkins

Washington Wizards' new assistant coach is David Adkins. Adkins has developed over a dozen NBA players and has extensive NBA experience. Adkins has worked with many Division I athletes, including Kevin Durant, Linas Kleiza, Greivis Vasquez, Austin Freeman, and Linas Kleiza, all of whom are from the Oklahoma City Thunder. Adkins has also worked with several Maryland basketball players including Tianna Hawkins of the Terrapins, and Alex Len of The Terrapins.

Washington area is buzzing about Adkins' appointment to the Wizards coaching staff. Adkins, who was a former coach at the Wizards' DeniAvdija, is known for his ability to develop players. Adkins started a car detailing business in Northern Virginia, before joining the Wizards.

Kristi Toliver

After being a part of the Washington Wizards staff for two seasons, Kristi Toliver was hired by the Dallas Mavericks. Toliver is a two-time WNBA champ and is currently the Mavericks' coach in the Western Conference finals. She is a former member of the Wizards' staff and a three-time All Star. After her playing career, Toliver went back to Los Angeles and helped the Sparks to the WNBA championship in 2016. Toliver joined Wizards as an assistant coach in February 2018, but was forced to sit out due to the COVID-19 virus pandemic.


Toliver worked with the Wizards' coaches during the 2018 NBA Summer League as well as during training camp. She is a two-time All-Star, a 2016 WNBA champion with the Los Angeles Sparks and a former player in the WNBA. Toliver, who was drafted by the Chicago Bulls third overall in the 2009 draft, played college basketball for Maryland Terrapins.

James Posey

James Posey is now the Washington Wizards general manager. Posey is 46 and has been a player in the NBA for 12 seasons, winning two championships at the Boston Celtics as well as the Miami Heat. He is an experienced, well-rounded role play. His long career in the NBA includes a stint as an assistant for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Posey will serve as an assistant coach to the Washington Wizards under head coach Wes Unseld Jr. He was also assistant coach for last season's University of Virginia women’s soccer team. Posey is currently working as an assistant coach for the University of Virginia women's team. However, Posey will be filling the Houston-based position that Mike Batiste left.

Larry Harris

If you've followed the Washington Wizards over time, then you know there is uncertainty. The firing of Jerry Grunfeld was an important step in the right direction. But, hiring a replacement coach is just as important. Washington needs to hire a new coach immediately.

The Wizards have almost $90MM dedicated to the 2019/20 salary cap. Many key contributors and players are on the free agent list this summer, leaving them with a lot of roster spots. Thomas Bryant (and Tomas Satoransky) will be restricted-free agents this summer. Another key contributor will be Bobby Portis, who will hit the open market this summer.
